Etnia House of Arts presents ‘Relation-Shape: A piece for really seeing and feeling each other’ by Keiko Yamagiwa.
Part of an ongoing practice exploring the invisible relationships between people through the body, fabric and space, the artwork connects two eyewear pieces with semi-transparent, elastic fabric. Each person looks towards the other through a small opening, while beads embedded in the fabric shift with their movements.
The artwork invites two people to discover what emerges through the shared experience of seeing, feeling, moving and being moved. As each person’s gestures alter the other’s perception, the piece becomes an exploration of how we perceive and respond to one another:
“Feeling one’s own body and field of vision change through the other person’s movement…In trying to truly see and feel each other, the two explore together what may emerge” Keiko Yamagiwa.
